Communities across California rely on the well-paying jobs, tax revenues, and community support provided by local cardrooms. For many of these cities, cardrooms are the largest single source of tax revenue and provide up to 80% of a city’s general operating budget, funding critical city services including public safety and emergency services, road maintenance and parks and recreation programs.
Our communities are in jeopardy if the Bureau of Gambling Control takes away games that have been lawfully played by cardrooms for decades. It would severely limit cardrooms’ ability to operate and many cardrooms could lose up to 60% or more of their revenue. This would mean massive lay-offs of living wage jobs, city budget shortfalls that could lead to severe reductions in city services.
